Translators often get asked to review their colleagues’ work. I usually declined such requests, as I did not feel legitimate to assess others’ writing.
During the winter and spring of 2026, I trained as a proofreader and got certified by Le Robert in July, with a 969/1000 score.
Proofreading French texts
I correct all mistakes pertaining to the language’s structure: spelling, grammar, syntax, etc. I point out inconsistencies, unclear passages, and erroneous data.
If the client allows me to, I suggest rephrasing when appropriate.
Please note that, proud as I may be of my English, it is not my native language and I do not offer proofreading services for English texts.
Reviewing translations
I check that the same information appears in both languages. I make sure my colleague used the glossary made available by the client or the terminology specific to the technical field.
I also correct the spelling and grammar, but not the translator’s style.
Respecting the author
My job is to improve a text, not completely rewrite it. I enhance your talent and your words: nothing more, and nothing less.
