How and why did I specialise?

I am originally a scientific and technical translator. As a teenager, I had already studied both languages and science, and I didn’t really want to choose either one or the other. So I decided to study at the Université de Haute-Alsace, some 750 km from my home. I was taught physics, chemistry, mathematics and a little biology, English and German grammar, and specialised languages: English applied to electronics, computer science, chemistry and aeronautics, German applied to electronics and chemistry, to name a few. To this day, 20 years later, those fields remain my main source of work.

My hobbies and interests also gave me the opportunity to gradually specialise in music, fashion and needlework. A lot of media are only in one language, be it English or German, which enabled me to learn foreign terminology alongside the French one. I was able to undertake fulfilling projects in classical music and crochet thanks to my passions.

On the other hand, I will refuse work in the medical or legal field, as I do not master the subjects, and redirect my clients to colleagues whose expertise lies in those fields.
